Depakote is an anti-seizure medication made with divalproex sodium. This is a form of valproate, which is approved by the FDA for the treatment of certain types of epilepsy, manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder and the prevention of migraine headaches. These drugs are also used off-label (for uses not approved by FDA) for other conditions, the FDA says.
